Why Slowness is My Superpower in Motherhood + Business

A gentle reflection for the woman trying to do it all—and wondering if there’s a different way.

I used to think that if I wasn’t doing more, I was falling behind.
That faster meant better. That slower meant lazy.
That rest was earned only after the checklist was done (and let’s be honest—the checklist is never done).

But then I became a mom.
And everything changed.

Slowness moved in like a quiet teacher.

I found myself rocking a baby for hours while the to-do list grew untouched.
I had to release the timelines I once clung to and lean into something softer, something sacred:
presence.

In the beginning, I resisted it.

I didn’t want to feel behind.
I didn’t want to miss an opportunity.
I didn’t want people to think I wasn’t “serious” about my dreams.

But somewhere between nap schedules and nighttime nursing, between first steps and forgotten emails,
I started to realize…

Slowness was actually shaping me.
Refining me.
Making me better.

What slowness gave me:

  • Margin to listen: to God, to my body, to my family

  • Clarity in my calling: because noise doesn’t always equal purpose

  • Presence with my people: the most important work is often unseen

  • Freedom from the hustle: no one’s handing out medals for burnout

  • Permission to grow at God’s pace, not Instagram’s

In my business, slowness looks like:

  • Offering fewer but more meaningful sessions

  • Being fully present with my clients (and not rushing the process)

  • Creating content from a place of overflow, not pressure

  • Choosing systems that work with my rhythms, not against them

In my motherhood, slowness looks like:

  • Sitting on the floor to play—even when the laundry’s calling

  • Taking walks without a destination

  • Letting routines anchor us instead of control us

  • Choosing connection over perfection

If you’re reading this and feeling behind…

Can I remind you of something?

You’re not late.
You’re not too slow.
You’re moving at the exact pace God designed for your story.

Slowness isn’t a setback—it’s a strategy.
One that protects your peace, deepens your presence, and honors your values.

So go ahead and move slow.
Build slow.
Grow slow.

It just might be your superpower too.

Cheers,

Jenna Elrod
